Sam Maguire Visits St Ciaran’s

We were proud to welcome members of the 2021 All Ireland winning Tyrone team, with the famous Sam Maguire Cup to our school.

Mr Niall Kelly, both a past pupil and current member of staff, along with past pupils Conor Quinn, Darragh Canavan and Darragh McAnenly were warmly greeted by the school community in a number of special assemblies and they took part in a Question and Answer session, hosted by Mr McKenna. Unfortunately due to work commitments, Conor Shields was unable to join the panel, but he was very much included among the tributes and accolades.

Our school has traditionally had strong links to many award-winning Tyrone panels and this year was no exception, with Darragh McAnenly’s mum Catriona, a member of our staff and Darragh Canavan’s Uncle Pascal, himself a former Tyrone county player, also on our staff.

It was noted that as students here, all boys had represented St Ciaran’s school teams to the very highest of levels over the years, in some cases even making it to Croke Park and their coaches over the years were acknowledged for all their hard work and dedication.

We were very grateful to Antain McDermott of Tyrone Fabrication, sponsors of both the Tyrone team and indeed our own school teams for coming along.

A great day of celebration and pride all round for our staff and students!
