Nuffield Research Development Programme

Congratulations to Aisling Cush (14CH) who successfully completed the Nuffield Research Placement programme.

This entailed Aisling completing a two-week work placement in Armagh Observatory and Planetarium over the summer holidays. Throughout this placement Aisling worked alongside a PhD student from Queens University Belfast, Asish Phillip Monai, on a project which explored transients, bright flashes of light in space and spectral classification, measuring the levels of elements on certain types of subdwarf stars.

After her two-week placement, Aisling then was tasked with designing a poster and writing a research paper based on her work at the Planetarium. Aisling successfully submitted these and on Wednesday 13th September, along with her mother and Mrs Donnelly, attended a prestigious Nuffield Research Placement Celebration Event in Parliament Buildings, Stormont where she was awarded her certificate.

We are so proud of Aisling and wish to thank Nuffield Research, StemNI and Armagh Observatory and Planetarium for affording Aisling with this opportunity.
